Large and ancient trees in Hashikami Town
Hashikami Town in Aomori Prefecture is also known as the "home of giant trees." This is because the area is dotted with giant and ancient trees estimated to be between 800 and 1,000 years old. 32 giant trees in Hashikami Town are registered in the Ministry of the Environment's "Giant Tree and Forest Database."
The town of Hashikami's website also lists and introduces 25 giant trees, four of which are located at Terashita Kannon and Ushioyama Shrine.
There are several giant tree tour courses set up within the town, and guided giant tree tour events are also held, with many people participating every time.
In addition to the above, the grounds of Terashita Kannon Shioyama Shrine are home to a variety of other trees, including cedars lining the approach to the shrine, ginkgo trees, and firs, as well as horse chestnuts, katsura trees, and walnuts, which are common in the streams.
There are also chars in the mountain streams, and in the summer you can see fireflies.
